What You'll Need To Begin Clicker Training

To start clicker training, you need a dog (duh!), a clicker and some treats.

Dog

You can clicker train a puppy at any age. And no dog is to old to be clicker trained, either. Despite popular belief, you can teach and old dog new tricks!

Clicker

You can buy a clicker from almost any pet shop. If your local pet shop doesn't sell them, buy one online.

Treats

The more motivated your dog is the harder he'll work for you during training sessions. Get some delicious high-value treats from the pet shop, or super market, to use specially during training sessions!

You should cut or break-up the treats into small pieces, about the size of a pea, so he can eat them quickly and focus back on training.

Treats that most dogs love are:

  • Dried pieces of liver
  • Diced pieces of chicken
  • Diced pieces of hot dog
  • Dried pieces fish
  • Cheese cubes

Now that you've got a dog, a clicker and some treats, let's start clicker training!
