Shake

Here's how to teach your dog to shake hands with you.

  1. Have him sit in front of you.

  2. Gently take his paw and lift it off the ground, click and treat. Repeat this step twenty times.

  3. Now hold out your outstretched hand, palm facing up, just in front of his paw and wait. If he moves his paw at all, click and treat. Repeat this step a few times.

  4. Click when he puts his paw on your hand, take his paw to shake it, and give him the treat. Practice this step several times.

Your outstretched hand will now be the physical cue to get him to raise his paw and shake.
