Here's how to teach your dog to do a 360 degree spin on his feet!
With your dog standing in front of you, take a treat, place it near his nose, and slowly move the treat around his body and back again allowing him to follow the treat with his nose. Click when he does a complete 360 degree turn, and give him the treat. Practice this fifteen times.
If he won't follow the treat all the way around in one go, then click each time he follows it just a quarter of the way around, and treat. Practice this a few times. Then click only if he follows the treat half of the way around, and treat. Practice this a few times. Then click only if he follows it the full way around, and treat.
Once he's following the treat all the way around, every time, start to minimize your hand movement by only luring him with the treat for the first half of the turn and then pulling you hand back early. He should turn the rest of the way by himself completing a full spin, click and treat when he does. Practice this several times.
Now only lure him with the treat a quarter of the way around, then pull your hand back, and allow him to turn the rest of the way himself, click and treat.
Eventually you will be able to make a small circular hand movement in front of his face and that will cause him to spin.
Now that he's spinning when you simply make a spin motion with your hand in front of his face, you can add the cue to spin. Say, "spin," and make the circular hand movement in front of his face. Gradually fade the hand movement by making less and less of a hand movement until simply saying spin is enough to get him to spin.
